  • About me and my approach

I am an Accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT) who draws on various approaches to meet the needs of each unique individual. Central to my work is to enable clients to be more self-compassionate and have the tools they need to live the lives they want.
My number one priority is to build a safe, warm and trusting relationship with clients by providing a supportive, non-judgemental space in which to share and explore.

    Experience

I have extensive experience of working with individuals experiencing a range of issues including: anxiety related difficulties, low mood, low self-esteem, perinatal and post-natal difficulties and those recovering from the impact of trauma. I have also worked with individuals who may ‘fit’ a specific diagnostic criteria like OCD or PTSD.
I have worked as a CBT Therapist in an NHS funded 'talking therapy' service and for a low-cost voluntary sector counselling service.

I have been a longstanding volunteer facilitator for a self-help group for people who self-harm & have volunteered for a national crisis texting service.

    About CBT

CBT theory is based on the view that our thoughts, behaviours and feelings (emotions and body sensations) are interconnected. By noticing these connections we can make adjustments especially to our thought processes and behaviours and this can make a real positive difference.
I really like CBT’s practical collaborative approach, meaning working together as equal partners to understand and find ways to address difficulties. There is 'homework' in between sessions, suggestions of things to do like recording experiences to explore patterns or trying out new strategies to see what works. I like to think of these ‘thinking’ and ‘behavioural’ strategies as being helpful tools for life.

    What I offer

I offer short-term or long-term sessions either in-person on Monday evenings or online during the week. Sessions are usually an hour long (though can be less) and frequency can vary depending on what is most helpful.
I have a sliding scale of fees depending on income.
