Karmen Losey

  • My training is in Integrative Counselling from BCPC alongside Family Systems and Couples training. In my practise I use a mix of:

    - a humanistic background which helps to enter a person's world from their own perspective (not the many that get placed upon them)
    - therapeutic use of the arts' to aid expression where words are hard
    - family therapy and couples work skills helping systems to shift
    - techniques to help with recalcitrant patterns eg Gestalt techniques alongside the arts' can offer clients options to not just talk about or avoid but enter their experience and come through the other side.

My previous Psychology degree has given me a cognitive grounding in mental health issues and human development. Neuropsychology has particularly given me a passion for the power people possess to heal themselves in conducive conditions.

I was Director of a bereavement centre for many years and I previously led a school based therapeutic service in Bath. More recently I have been a Counsellor for staff within the NHS and am going more into this work. These roles have involved working with various issues, age groups, family units and wider systems around families. These have given me skills and interests in many areas including dreamwork; brief targeted work; longer term in depth work; re-storying work and overall in empowering clients.

In private practise I have worked particularly with mental health issues; issues of loss; identity-formation; relational patterns; and the many transitions in life which we have to navigate, with clients 18yrs+. I hope this helps you decide if I may be able to help you but do feel free to call and discuss it further.
