    Humanistic and Integrative Counselling

I work with individual clients and couples verbal and non-verbal communication, helping clients with the expression and narrative understanding which can foster change.
This can involve creativity; tapping into metaphor, narrative, image, dreams etc to help with going beyond words, unburdening, and enabling you in time to empower yourself.

This way of working can help bring `parts of self' in from the cold - such as younger self - which won't be all of you, but can be befriended and harnessed. I have worked with many clients going through transitions having been a doula for a number of years, and my systemic training enhances coming alongside couples too.

It often reassures people that I have a background in Psychology and over 15 years of experience involving many presentations, difficulties and ages. I now work mostly in NHS Staff Counselling online, and face to face from lovely consulting rooms in South and North Bristol.

    Training, qualifications & experience

My background Psychology degree has given me a broad cognitive grounding in mental health, human development and relational patterning. Within this Neuropsychology informs me in utilising individuals' rich imagination and creativity to fully attend to their narrative, their needs and create new neural pathways.

Beyond Psychology, my training is in Integrative Counselling from BCPC (with distinction) and Accreditation with BACP (beyond registration, offering you the assurance of an experienced and safe practitioner). I also have Family Systems and Couples training. This integration helps my practise to adapt with clients' preferences and individual needs at the time, utilising the following:

    • Humanistic bent to help enter and engage with your experience
    • Therapeutic use of the arts to aid expression where words are hard
    • Narrative lens to help author your own your story
    • Knowledge of and work with attachment and loss
    • Systemic overview and interactive communication
    • Techniques and strategies to ground and empower you

Over the last few years I have been a Staff Counsellor for our hard working NHS. Prior to that I was Director of a family bereavement centre for many years, and led a school based therapeutic service.

These roles have involved working with all ages, issues, family units and wider systems within brief targeted work and longer term in depth work. This has honed my skills and interests in navigating individual differences and requirements of me.
In my private practise I have worked particularly with mental health issues; loss in general; identity-formation; relational patterns including those between couples in the room; and the many transitions in life we have to navigate, whether socially ’normative’, or not.

I hope this helps you decide if I may be able to help you but do feel free to take up the free call and discuss how this might work for you and/or your loved ones, further.

Sessions are £70 for individuals and £95 for couples.

I offer an initial 20 minute free consultation which is a rich foundation and chance to check in on suitability; and clients often step into the work at that stage.
