About Tuina
Tuina is a fundamental part of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). It dates back thousands years old and is used in Chinese hospitals alongside acupuncture, Qigong and powerful Chinese herbal medicine. Doctors believe we have 12 principal meridians that run throughout our bodies. These have over 2000 acu-points running through their lines. Each meridian is named after an internal organ (the organs as we know in anatomy).
The Chinese believe we have a vital source of energy in our body, it’s called 'Qi'. When Qi is balanced, your body is in harmony. You will have energy and feel vitalized, you will have a strong immunity and a healthy digestive system. Due to the speediness of our lives, Qi can sometimes turn stagnated - 'De-Qi' . This may represent itself in stiffness, pain and discomfort.
Tuina uses deep tissue manipulations such as: rolling, pummelling, kneading and finger pressing along your meridian lines focusing on very specific acupressure points to turn that De-Qi back into flowing Qi, revitalizing your body & soul again.
It's a very powerful, unique treatment and a huge part of Chinese culture. It is a preventative approach to therapy by targeting the nourishing of Qi preventing it from ever becoming De-Qi.
About me
I learnt Tuina with my Grandmother, Maria Mercati. She spent her entire life discovering the beauty of Tuina, with over 20 trips to China in the 1980's to learn directly from Chinese doctors. She wrote her own books and taught thousands of students the power of Tuina. I was fortunate enough to learn with her, and I am thrilled to be handing down her legacy, it feels truly magical.
Massage and acupuncture has been a huge part of my life so far, and I've been practicing it professionally for almost 2 years. I have recently moved to Bristol and I enjoy walking and exploring my new city, dancing and being creative in my free time.
